Research into target Audience;

We researched our target audience by using the results of our questionnaire. We found the results of our questionnaire very helpful and decided that we would aim our horror film at older teenagers and younger adults. This is because being older teenagers we find that our age range is very interested by horror films. Also from our results from the group of people we asked they agree that most horror films are aimed at this age. This maybe because younger children will become very scared and it may affects them greatly and because older middle age adults may feel that some horror’s are too modern and they may think that they are not for them and that they don’t have enough time spare.

Also we used local people to fill out or questionnaire, this was because they will have a similar attitude and norms as the member's of groups. Therefore they will be able to relate with the effect and setting we used. Also we used people around the age group we initially thought as we were proven right by the questionnaire to this age group being the most people who would be interested in a new horror clip.

Character Planning;

Characters, make-up and dress design:

Creating Dress

 We decided that the girl in our film would have a quite pale face, as this appeared to be ghost like. Also she would have really dark eyes as if she hadn’t slept and has been beaten slightly. We also added bruises and blood on her arms, this was to show how she has viciously murdered someone, however the audience does not know this yet but they will hopefully get this idea.

Make Up

 The little girl is wearing a white dress as we thought that this looked childish and something a really young girl would wear, we tore the dress and added fake blood to make the girl look rough and even scarier. The big blood hand print is to show how someone who she has killed was reaching up to her. The hair was meant to look like it hadn’t been washed for a while as this girl is pretty much a ghost.

 Our next character was the victim. The victim was to have lots of blood covering them to show how the girl had killed them in a horrible way. The victim had an obvious knife wound in the side and blood all over there body to show how they tried to escape. Also the victim has tears and mud in their clothes to show they tried to escape.

Camera Angles Planning;

Camera Angles:
There are three camera angles we have decided to concentrate on using in our clip. We have decided to use these camera angles because we found that they create the best effect and will work well with our ideas. Also these camera angles were used often within the starting horror scenes we researched. The three camera angles are: eye level, oblique angle and a low angle.
We decided to use the eye level angle, as we thought it would create the effect of the main character staring right into the eyes of the next victim, this shows that they are not alone. We decided we are going to use an oblique angle; the oblique angle creates a tilt, to suggest instability or imbalance. This adds a different spooky and odd shape towards the way the main character holds their body position. This also links with the eye level angle as it can be used to show how one particular character’s point of view has changed. Thus suggesting another character is being watched. Lastly we decided to try and use a low angle shot as it is sometimes used to add a sense of confusion for the audience. The low angle will be used to look up at the character this maybe, because the character has their head down, thus it will be used to show the characters hidden face.

Location Planning;

Location
Our location will include more than one location as we thought this would make the beginning more interesting. The locations were around Whittlesey. The pictures are taken to show the location without any props or objects that will be added into the scene if needed. The locations are taken in a dark lighting, thus at night or late evening, this is to create a tense atmosphere. Also we found from our research on horror’s that a dark surrounding creates more suspense for the audience.
  1. Forest:  This dark surrounding, and shows how this place has aged and is surrounded by uncared for nature. Thus making it seem rough and appealing for the horror. This is form one the nature reserves in whittlesey that seems almost abandoned and never seems to have anyone around there.
  2. Church: This is a dark surrounding and is not very horrific except one part of the church were the stairs are. This is old and will be perfect for following the girl and for the different angles we will use. Also the setting is a bit horrific and gloomy.

Mise en scene;
Our location also depended on the weather. We wanted the weather to be quite gloomy with a slight breeze. This was becasue the weather would have an effect on the surroundings. Also it would have an effect on the mood of the clip.
The day we decided to film had quite approprate weather and was quite dark in the early afternoon which is when we filmed this clip. We decide on a dark eerie effect. However if it was too dark the camera would not be able to film the clip to a good quality and may not be able to see enough detail in the character.
The weather was important for the outside shots. However when we were in the church there was lights to make the stair-way brighter. These lights were quite minimal and did not give a great light to the character. However the group did not want this scene to be dark and wanted it to be darker and mysterious.

Target Audience Questionnaire;

Questionnaire...
Our questionnaire was aimed at finding out who would be our target audience and what sort of elements they wanted to see in our ‘horror’ clip.

Question 1:

We first asked the gender, however this may not have been as necessary, as all it really proved was that as a group we asked more females, this maybe because the group thought that females maybe more insightful and interested.

Question 2:

The second question was like the first, as it just let us find out the age range of the people we asked. The age range was students of our age; this was because the group thought it would be a good idea if we asked them because this is who we thought many ‘horror’ films were aimed at.

Question 3:

This question would help us understand if ‘horror’ was popular in this age range. If not then we would aim it at a different age. However it was very popular, thus concluding that we had chosen the right age range to aim the clip and questionnaire at.

Question 4:

The question of age was to create an idea for the group; the idea would involve how graphical the clip could be. The two age limits were; 15 and 18 which suggest that we could create a clip with a lot of gore and those younger children were not an age range that would watch a horror, suggesting we had the right target audience.

Question 5:

The fifth question was used to find out how popular ‘horror’ films were and how often people of our age range would watch them.

Question 6:

The group decided that this would be possibly one of the most important questions to ask, as it would help us to decide on the type of story line we would create. The most popular was blood/gore, which made it easy for the group to decide that the clip would show a lot of blood and gore, however we did realise that it would need to look very realistic for the clip to be taken as a serious ‘horror’.

Question 7:

Question 7 was once again about knowing the right target audience to aim the film at. The groups initial thought was 15-18 which was proven to be the most popular, thus we were right and will be aiming the film in this age range.

Question 8:

We decided to ask what their favourite horror film was. This was because we wanted to use the elements that were popular in the most well known and favourite film. This was because we concluded that the film was a favourite as it was well known and wanted to add elements to make our film seem well known.

Question 9

We asked this question to find out, about what elements of filming can create the effect that is most popular and desired by the audience. The element was blood and guts. We decided to use blood as it seemed quite scary and because it is what the audience found the most effective in a horror.

Question 10

This question was added for the group to gain an understanding of what emotion the characters should use, to create the atmosphere of this mood/ emotion for the audience. The most popular was fear, thus meaning we will use quick striking and scary elements in this clip.
